Clare started dancing with Springs Dance when she was 3 years old.

After a family move to California and two years with another studio after returning to Colorado Springs, she came back to Springs Dance at age 10.

When asked why she came back to Springs Dance, she says the organization and the consistent quality of the instructors were important to her parents…but it was the community that made the difference for her.

Not only was she improving her dancing, but she was building relationships with peers at other schools that helped her connect with the broader community. She says her dance relationships helped her “spread out” and access valuable opportunities to get involved.

It’s inspirational to hear Clare talk about how the confidence she developed as a dancer in the studio and a performer on stage gave her the public speaking and presentation skills that allowed her to excel academically, how the leadership skills she developed at Springs Dance gave her the ability to express her ideas and present them effectively to others.

Now 18-years old and starting college this fall, Clare is taking with her the experience she gained as a student, a performer, and a leader at Springs Dance. She says that being a dancer held her to a higher standard and her love of dance motivated her to take care of herself physically and mentally to make sure that the other areas of her life were operating at the same standard.
